Carmel Woods and Pescadero Road Sewer Main Rehabilitation Project
Overview
The Carmel Woods and Pescadero Road Sewer Main Rehabilitation Project (Project) will upgrade sewerage conveyance facilities in Carmel Woods and along Pescadero Road. The project is currently under design and is expected to begin construction in early 2027. In the meantime CAWD will be meeting with the public to explain the project and solicit input to minimize disruptions to residents.
The Carmel Woods component of the Project consists of the replacement and/or rehabilitation of approximately 3 miles of existing deteriorated clay pipe with high-density plastic pipe or a plastic lining system.

The work along Pescadero Road includes construction of a new sewer main to convey water from the upper Carmel Woods area and slip-lining of the existing sewer downslope of the houses along Pescadero Road. This slip-lined pipe will only convey water the homes along Pescadero Road instead of the entire upper Carmel Woods flow basin. The rehabilitated sewer system will continue to operate through gravity flow, and no homeowners will need to install ejector pumps.
